Designer Spotlight; Jill Foster

How/when did you begin stamping? Several years ago, a co-worker first introduced me to stamping when she shared her hand-stamped Christmas cards. I stamped time to time after that but really began stamping on a more consistent basis in 2009 when I started my blog.

What is your favorite technique/style? I love anything with lots of ink and coloring. Often, I like to start my cards with completely white cardstock and build up the colors, backgrounds, and main elements myself, using lots of different techniques.

Which Penny Black products are you most drawn to? I can’t pick! And I love that with Penny Black. I don’t have to. When I’m in the mood for something cute I can reach for Mimi or a Hedgie, and if I want something elegant or natural, Penny Black has that, too! Currently I am really drawn to the new Madison Designer Paper Pad and can’t wait to step outside of my box and use more patterned paper in my creations.

What do you do when you’re in a stamping ‘slump’? Lately, when I’m in a slump I turn to Pinterest for inspiration. I just have to be careful not to spend too much time there, it’s sooo addictive. :) (To take a peek at Jill’s Pinterest Boards, click HERE.)

How would you describe your craft space in three words? Organized, colorful, and cozy.

What would be your advice to beginner stampers? If you enjoy sharing your work, I recommend starting a blog. I think having an outlet to share my work motivated me to stamp on a more regular basis and develop my skills. And if you’re looking to learn new techniques, check out YouTube for lots of ideas- it’s like taking a mini class.

Do you have any questions for our readers?  I’d love to see what you’ve been creating with Penny Black stamps, where do you share your work?

I’ve learnt much from Jill’s video tutorials & I have to agree with her about the fact that with Penny Black you don’t have to choose between cute or classic, that’s becoming even more true now with the patterned papers being introduced. I think too that blogging helps you to see things slightly differently & it certainly made me think more about how to express an idea in writing.

I absolutely love Jill’s cards and the videos are a huge treat. I always learn something and I have been stamping for about 14 years. I have a dedicated craft room now that my youngest son is out on his own! Jill has wonderful talent and it is delightful that she shares it with the stamping world! Thank you very much!
