Penny Black Pinspiration

October 12, 2012

Pinterest is an amazing site where you can store all of this bits and pieces of things you find and love all over the internet and share with anyone and everyone. Penny Black has a new account we’ve been pinning to – follow our pins here!

To celebrate, the Penny Black designers have scoured the internet for Winter Wonderland-themed images that inspired them to create with their stamps. Find some of our Pinterest-inspired projects here, and then try it yourself! Post a link to your inspiration and to your finished card. We’d love to see what you can do!

Cathy said, “I was drawn to the greys and wintery browns on this picture and loved the random sizes of the white snow falling and the strength from the black tree in the foreground and hoped to capture these elements in my card.  This card would also be suitable for the Help the Heroes ’cause as it has no glitter!”

Penny Black materials used: Crystal Pattern 40-162, Christmas Cheer 30-140, Village Christmas 4205L and Berry Red, Snow White 4202L.

Heather said, “I chose the tree above as my inspiration and started with just some pretty coloured balls on my card. It wasn’t until I decided to sponge some background sky that it transformed into the Northern Lights.”

The tree was stamped first in Versafine Onyx Black and then embossed in clear. Selected balls were colored with Sharpie fineliners before masking the horizon and sponging the sky and snowdrifts using Memento Teal Zeal and Grape Jelly.
Stamps: Twinkling, Christmas Fashion

Karen was inspired by the snowy scene and pulled out Polar Mimi 4279H, Let is Snow 30-086 and a Sizzix EB folder to create her wintery card.

Peet drew inspiration from the icy colors of the snowflake image. Her card uses Fairy Stardust & Winter Magic (sentiment).

Alexandra said, “I almost turned on the Christmas music the gallery was so inspiring! Because it is never too early to think “stocking stuffer”, the image inspired me to make this quick and easy mini book  (Mimi’s Mini Book!) I loved the contrast between the aqua and the sense of warmth the image projected. I used watercolor pencils to color Mimi and her baby seal.”  Click for a tutorial for Alexandra’s mini book.
We’ll be back Sunday with some scrapbooking inspiration!  See you then!

It’s great seeing how differently images inspire creative designing. I think eveyone has an individual eye & that was really brought home to me with your particular examples.

Not sure if I understood the challenge & looks like I’m too late, but I did make a card based on a photo I found on line–the 16th one at this website http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/11/23/45-winter-wonderland-photos/ & here’s my card http://www.flickr.com/photos/stampinnurse/8092722859/in/pool-pennyblackinc

I left a comment & the links to my inspiration & card–wonder why it isn’t here now. I also don’t see the winner of the gift certificate for the $100 that was part of WCMD. I loved all the DT cards & was surely inspired!
