Guest Designer, Carolyn King

April 8, 2011
by

My name is Carolyn King (or Cammie!) and I live in sunny Texas with my husband and three children. I love all things crafty but am most drawn to the paper arts–designing cards, altered items and scrapbook pages. I am so excited to be a guest designer for Penny Black. What a fun variety of stamps! You can see more of my work on my personal blog by clicking on my photo.

Big Birthday Wishes
I stamped and colored the adorable main image. I colored it with Copic markers and added some metal dots to the center of the flowers. I stamped the sentiment on pink paper and then stamped it again on orange/yellow so that I could cut out “Great Big” and pop it on top of the original.

Happy Birthday Damask
I was very drawn to this damask background stamp. It is large and easily covers a card front. I LOVE the intricate detail to it – beautiful all on its own. I stamped the sentiment in pink to add a pop of color.

Happy Birthday Flowers
I created this card by inking the flower stamp with water based markers. Instead of spraying a water mist over it..I used a gold glimmer mist spray to remoisten the ink and then stamped. The result is a water colored effect with a touch of sparkle. I stamped the sentiment on vellum and sewed it to the card.

Gorgeous projects, Carolyn, thank you for sharing your Penny Black work with us! We’re back all next week with Kathy Racoosin’s designs and a new challenge. Be sure to enter your ATC into this week’s challenge! You can click HERE for the details. Have a terrific weekend.

Another brilliant showcasing of the possibilities with Penny Black stamps – these are all utterly different but striking. I cannot choose which is my favourite. I love the idea of using a shimmer mist with the markers on the stamp – not something I’d thought of. Thanks for that.

HI Cammie! Love your cards!! Love that idea about spraying the glimmer mist on the stamp instead of water. I will try this. I love that Damask stamp too.
