Judy Jung, Runs with Scissors

February 1, 2014

She captured our heart and we are thrilled to announce you will be seeing more of her here, even if she is a bit dangerous and…

Psst!   Psst!  Over here …It’s me again, Judy.  It was so awesome to land on the Penny Black Blog on New Year’s Eve that I couldn’t resist trying again.  And it worked!  I am never deleting that weird email that transports me here.

It’s Saturday … nobody’s around.  Guess it’s safe to relax a little and enjoy the experience.  Have you all been following Guest Designer Kelly’s week of Pop-Up cards?  Are they not amazing?  And adorable?

I have to confess:  as much as I love all things Penny Black, my second great love is Pop Up cards!   I love the magic that happens when you open them up.   Kelly doesn’t only inspire me, she has enabled me and I have a small collection of dies to make pop up cards.  Here’s a Valentine I made using some Sizzix dies and of course, Penny Black stamps and Creative Dies.

When I’m making pop up cards, my first thought is the inside.  Using very scientific terms, there is no such thing as having too much going on!!   Hearts, butterflies, sentiments, diecuts and glitter pen…  I was a little sad when I ran out of room to put stuff (another scientific term).

Speaking of Valentines … if we’re going to be spending some time together, you need to know I have five grandchildren.  Four of them are teens or pre-teens and aren’t eager to have cute and adorable photos posted anywhere.  However, the youngest, Evelyn Rose, is seven months old and very cute and adorable.  Here’s the proof:

judy3

When I make cards for Evie, I slow down and pay attention!  I am usually smiling while I stamp, cut and paste, knowing they will be in her baby book and will someday make her smile, too.

This is Evie’s Valentine for her first Valentine’s Day, with love from Grandma.

judy4

This image originally had the little girl holding a single heart-shaped balloon.  I thought Evie would enjoy an entire bouquet of balloons instead.  That’s the fun of our stamping art … go where the muse takes you.  This card is sized to fit in a #10 business envelope.

And a little tip:  if you are insecure about your coloring skills, paper piecing is a way to bring your images to life without the insecurity!  I love to color, but when I want to be sure everything stays within the lines, I paper piece!

Valentines’ Day is not all about girlie colors.  The same Penny Black Valentine images can be used for the men and boys in your life by using boring masculine colors.  This Valentine is a CASE of a card I received from my Flickr friend Marilyn about two years ago.  Isn’t it fun to convert the girlie look to the guy look?  I really couldn’t resist adding that pink heart, though!

judy5

As you can see, I’ve been having too much fun playing with my Penny Black Valentine stamps.  The best part is, after Valentine’s Day is gone I know I will still be using these stamps for other occasions.  But that’s a thought for another day.

Wow!  Where has the time gone?  I have so much fun at the Penny Black Blog that I forget to leave.  And do you suppose we could keep these visits of mine just between us stampers?   I don’t know what the penalty is for taking over a blog, but I imagine it involves the confiscation of all sharp objects.

I think I’ve pretty much cleaned up  my mess and now it’s time for me to get home to my other hobby –  folding laundry!!    See you!!

Not only were ALL your cards gorgeous, along with your beautiful picture of Evie, but I so enjoyed reading every word of this post. (OK, I admit I rarely read every word of a post, I am looking at the cards..my bad). You are a hoot! Glad to hear your other hobby is Laundry….come on over, I have a couple of piles that need tending!
Congrats my friend on your new position with Penny Black, they were so smart to ask you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that enough exclamation marks for you?

    • February 1, 2014 5:27 am

Thanks for the exclamation marks, Penny. I’ve almost used up my supply!! Hugs.

Evie’s card is a delight but I do love that masculine version of a Valentine – doesn’t the little pink heart just enhance the whole? Love seeing a different angle on things.

Good things come to good people and great design gigs come to great designers! I’m so happy the two came together here with you becoming a part of the Penny Black family! (I also suspect little Evie is going to become famous as the unofficial poster baby for PB – what a charmer she is. Does she have an agent yet?) I’ll definitely be back to see where you run with those scissors next time!!!

    Mother,

You continue to amaze us all with your passion for stamping. You are turning into a rock star! I don’t recall your love of folding laundry from my youth, I am glad you are trying new things. Evelyn is excited to receive her cards, however she only wants Penny Black stamps, who knew seven month olds could be so demanding!

    Much love, your son,

    Scott

    • February 1, 2014 9:23 am

I used to fold the laundry in secret so that I wouldn’t have to share with any of you kids! I am happy to know that you are allowed to fold the laundry in your adult life. And if Evie is demanding, I know who she gets it from. Much love, your mother, Judy

JUDY!!!! What an absolute delightful surprise 😀 Your cards are gorgeous, you have a very fine eye for detail (Can’t believe you run with scissors though????- LOL)

Evie is completely adorable, and will treasure that spectacular card when she is old enough to appreciate it – beautiful shading too!

  37. February 5, 2014 8:01 am

Lovely cards, I love the pop up cards too but really don’t make them. It’s nice to see good masculine card ideas as I make cards for Operation Write Home and there is always a need for masculine cards.
Beautiful Granddaughter-her smile made me smile, funny how that always works.
I will follow for awhile and see where the card making takes me.
    Thank you for sharing ideas.
