Designer Spotlight; Kathy Racoosin

September 27, 2010
by

Kathy Racoosin is an amazing recent addition to the Penny Black Design Team. Kathy’s vibrant, jaw-dropping Penny Black creations keep you wondering what she’ll make next! She’s a wonderful artist, a beautiful person, and we’re so excited to introduce you to her.

by Kathy; I have loved office supplies since I was a child and they were always my favorite Birthday presents. I tried all kinds of crafts through the years, in search of that “thing” that I could fall in love with . Once I discovered rubber stamping, I found what I had been searching for all these years, and I can say that creatively, I am fulfilled!! I love teaching and hope to start teaching stamping on a volunteer basis to teens. Being a part of the Penny Black family is a dream come true.

You can find Kathy at her personal blog, The Daily Marker.

We asked Kathy some nosey questions about her work and this is what she had to say;

What’s on your craft table right now?
A large yellow cutting mat (11×18) . Pre-stamped images, colored images, copic markers, scrap dots, glossy accents, small scissors, book cloth tape, calendar, lists of cards to make and list of cards to send.

What is your favorite color combination?
My favorite go to color combo is always changing. Right now it’s blues, teals and reds . Usually I have a touch of blue on every card.

How would you describe your style?
That’s a good question. I think my style appears to be “simple”, but the card can be pretty involved with cutting, coloring and layering. I always have a colored image and I like to top my card off with some white dots.

How did you get into stamping?
We were at a friend’s house for dinner and she showed me how to emboss. It’s funny how that one moment has literally changed my life!

How often do you get to stamp?
I have pre-stamped images all over my studio and I have a need to color something every day, even if it’s for only for fifteen minutes.

What inspires you?
So many things inspire me,nature, magazines, blogs, people, challenges and the “Penny Circle” Flickr group.

Now for some of Kathy’s cards…enjoy!

Please leave a comment for Kathy, or feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for visiting today and be sure to stop by every day this week as we spotlight more Design Team Members.

LOVE the little circle card especially – that dotty flower pot is adorable!!!
And seriously – Kathy’s work desk is a sight to behold. She had hundreds of gorgeous stamped, coloured images just waiting to adorn a card. Kathy is the best, most inventive colourer I’ve EVER seen.
I really enjoyed reading her little interview.
