Penny Black presents CUTE to ELEGANT – Day 4

November 29, 2012

Penny Black has something for everyone, from cute to elegant! This week Penny Black designer Jill Foster will be sharing cute card samples which in turn inspired elegant samples. To leave you even more inspired, we’ll also have a simple sketch for both cards!

Be sure to enter today’s giveaway! (more details below)

Really, could Mimi get any cuter?!  She’s been colored with Copics and then layered onto backgrounds created with Distress Inks and tone-on-tone stamping.

Stamps: 30-133 Mimi’s Winter Friends, 30-137 All is Bright

The card above then inspired this ELEGANT version—different colors, but a similar overall structure.

Stamps: 30-135 Silent Night, 40-169 Diamond Pattern
Ever wanted to learn how to color Mimi with Copic markers? Here are some Quick Tips!

Very useful indeed – I’d not thought about the fact that Mimi is so good for a beginner when it comes to Copics; she may well help me over my diffidence with Copics & the like. My favourite of these is definitely the elegant: the tone on tone background is a technique that I delight in & it’s utterly effective in this one, especially with the textured brown & torn strip.

Great cards, Jill!!! I love your use of non-traditional and bright colors on your elegant card. That Silent Night stamp set is awesome!!

  46. November 29, 2012 7:24 am

Both of these card are absolutely beautiful! I adore Mimi b/d of her sweet cuteness but I love elegant too so the silent night is right up my alley as well!

I LOVE how Mimi was colored. I really zoomed in to look at the res of Mimi and I really LOVE the way you added purple to the fur to really make it look more “white.” I would have never thought to do that.

I am curious though…I had heard that embossing powder really ruins your copic nibs. So I have never tried it b/c I was afraid to ruin my most expensive investment. Have you had any problems/issues?

Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed day! 😉

    • November 29, 2012 11:30 am

Hi Valerie, I haven’t had any problems with it ruining my marker nibs. I avoid coloring on the embossed areas extensively, but if I brush over it from time to time, it doesn’t seem to be a problem. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching and for your sweet comments!
