Take Flight 20 – Day 1, Dreams Come True

February 4, 2013
Take Flight Twenty Penny Black
To kick off Penny Black’s 20 days of stamping inspiration, Therese has made a card using various techniques.  She says, “For this card, I used the background stamp Trailing Beauty (40-207), Fancy Flowers (30-123), and Friendship (30-160).  I have a step-by-step tutorial of how I created this card.”
therese_dreamscometrue1On black card stock, I stamped the background stamp, Friendship, with Versamark Ink.  The image was then heat embossed with clear powder.
therese_dreamscometrue2
Using Spellbinders dies (Labels 8), I created a frame from the embossed image.

I stamped an image from Fancy Flowers with Onyx Black Versafine ink  on watercolor paper (smooth side).  The image was then heat embossed with clear powder.  I colored the image using watercolor pencils and a watercolor brush.  Because the flowers were quite small, I picked up the color directly from the pencils with my watercolor brush and painted them directly.

therese_dreamscometrue3 I fussy cut the stamped image.

I forgot to take a picture of the next step where I stamped the sentiment.  I cut white card stock with the larger of the 2 dies to create the base for my frame.  I then aligned the black frame on the white card stock and lightly traced the inside part of the frame (top part only) with a pencil.  This way, I can get a better sense on how to center the sentiment inside the frame. I stamped the sentiment from the clear set, Friendship, on the top half of the cards tock and erased the pencil lines.  I distressed the edges of the white card stock with gray ink.  I then adhered the black frame to the white card stock.
I wanted to place the frame on a patterned paper card panel.  I adhered the patterned paper with white cardstock that I colored with gray ink matching the color of the patterned paper.
therese_dreamscometrue4Once this was all completed, I adhere the frame on a slant and added the flowers and cart image below the sentiment.  Both frame and stamped image were adhered with dimensional foam tape.  Finally, I added colored pearls for added dimension.
