February 15, 2013
Take Flight Twenty Penny Black
Penny Black designer Elizabeth Allan is back today with a hand-made and stamped vellum envelope. What a festive holder for a gift card or money for the celebrating graduate!  Check out her tutorial below:
hooray_elizabeth
Instructions:

Stamp “Very Wise” on watercolor paper in Onyx Black VersaFine and heat emboss with clear powder.
hooray_1
Watercolor the image and then trim.  Set aside.
hooray_2
Create an envelope from vellum and stamp “Indian Wheel” in Wheat VersaMagic.
hooray_wheel

Before gluing the sides, punch two small holes in the bottom flap and thread a piece of gold twine through the back.
hooray_3

Create two matching holes in the top flap.  Insert the note, gift card or money and thread the ends through the holes in the top flap and tie in a bow.
Tip/Hint: Nail polish applied to the cut ends of the twine will help prevent raveling.
hooray_4

Stamp the banner from “Embellishments” in Delicata Golden Gliztz ink on White and Blue Skies cardstocks.  Trim the banners.
hooray_5

Spell “HOORAY” using Kate’s Alphabet in Onyx Black VersaFine. Add random glitter dots with a sparkle gel pen.
Design Option:  Add “faux” stitches with a black pen  around the border of the blue banner. Layer the blue banner on top of the white banner using dimensional foam.
hooray_6

Attach the banners to the front of the envelope with adhesive.  Add the “fussy-cut” owl with dimensional foam.
hooray_7

Finished size:  2-1/2 x 3-5/8

I had to smile for I’m just working with the Tombow markers using them as they are & with the Blender Pen. I’ve only dabbled slightly with watercolouring using the Tombows so I’m looking forward to having a proper attempt at that. I particularly like the way you stamped the vellum & how the pattern echoes the owl’s eyes, not only in shape, but also in colour. Your threading mechanism is delightful & thanks for the tip about the nail varnish. Kate’s Alphabet will have to go on my wish list I think.

      Hello Karin,
I love to fussy cut and get great results from using my Cutter Bee scissors. The smaller size yields great precision and they stay extremely sharp. I find it very helpful to move the paper as I trim rather than move the scissors. Thank you for stopping by for a visit!

What a darling project. I would have liked to hear a little more about watercoloring with the markers. Was it done like we learned in the tutorial earlier this week when using watercolor pencils? i.e. spread the water on the white section, and then move into the colored area, bringing as much color down as you want? Thanks for a useful project.

    • February 15, 2013 4:00 pm

Hello Cynthia……Penny Black’s new Kate’s Alphabet makes it easy since it is an acrylic set and I can see through the letters. For added assistance, I draw a very faint pencil line to use as a guide. After I have finished stamping and the ink is dry, I erase out the guide line. Thank you for stopping by today.
