Get ready, here come our designers with their tips, techniques, and tutorials featuring our newest releases Magic of the Season and Autumn Wishes. This week Micheline “Mimi” Jourdain joins us with her Top Three Tree Watercolor Tips.

Not only does Micheline “Mimi” have an awesome watercolor tip for us, she has a complete watercolor tutorial. She’s stamping and painting with our brushstroke stamp, 40-494 Scarlet Majesty.

To complete her card, Mimi used the following supplies.

Penny Black stamps: 40-494 Scarlet Majesty, 30-384 Rejoice with Joy
Other: Distress Ink Pads – Barn Door, Peeled Paint, and Chipped Sapphire; VersaFine Onyx Black Ink; Fabriano Cardstock

Mimi began by inking her stamp with Peeled Paint Distress Ink on the center leaves and one or two others randomly. She used a towel to wipe off the paint in areas where she did not want it.

She then applied Barn Door Distress Ink on the other leaves and berries, taking care not to touch the green ones.

Finally, she used Chipped Sapphire Distress ink on the side of some of the green and red leaves. These colors blend together and add volume.

She spritzed her stamp with water and stamped it twice onto Fabriano watercolor paper.

With a wet paintbrush, she spread the colors, making sure the colors did not mix too much. The look she was going for was a small, soft blending between the colors.

And here’s her first tip of the week:

One leaf at a time, while they are wet, use the tip of an Exacto knife to “scratch” the veins in the leaves. Automatically, in the veins, the colors will darken. This makes for a very chic effect, even better than painting them in with a paintbrush.

To finish things off, Mimi used her “dirty water” to paint around the leaves and she added diluted Peeled Paint ink to the background. Once dry, she stamped her sentiment.
