Sharing a Song with Sandy Allnock

July 24, 2017

Throughout the month of July, we’ve invited some fabulous guest designers to visit here on our blog. They are sure to inspire us all to get a jumpstart on our Christmas creations. Join us over the next three weeks as these wonderful guests feature our classic Christmas stamps and dies. And just when your Christmas crafting mojo is kicking in, we will be here in August to share with you all of our NEW Christmas products!

This week Santa brought us an early Christmas gift… we’re honored to have with us the talented Sandy Allnock sharing her amazing coloring inspiration! Sandy has been an artist since childhood, and avid papercrafter since the late 90s! She loves to color with almost any medium, and enjoys teaching on her blog and YouTube to encourage others to pick up pens and brushes, too! She lives in Washington State with her puppies and cats.

Take it away, Sandy…

Hello there! I’m Sandy Allnock and I’m so excited to be visiting here on the Penny Black blog. There are always so many inspiring projects here – I hope the week ahead will be a lot of fun for those who love to color. That’s my thing – encouraging people to color in any medium…and all week I have lots of Copic coloring to share here. Scroll to the end of the post for a peek at what’s coming!

The sweet little stamp called Sharing a Song was so darling I had to color it up right away! And since I’m a nut for creating scenes, I also added 40-500 Skyward – which makes it appear to have a scene, even though it’s just a soft forest behind her.

In an effort to help you color this stamp set for your Christmas cards, I’ve created a “shading map” you can follow to locate where the shadows belong on this image. You can download it HERE and tuck it in the stamp packet for the next time you color it.

To see the shading map in action, watch the video below for more. Click HERE to see it in HD on YouTube.

I embellished by adhering a piece of folded silk ribbon under the popped panel – just tying it with a little twine!

If you missed the colors during the video, here they are:

More shading maps are coming this week…I used the same kind of process as in the video today – but there will be shading maps for a different set each day! So be sure to pop back to the blog here and catch them all.

Have a colorful day!

Thank you, thank you! Shading is always the most challenging part of coloring for me. This helps keep it fun, not frustrating. Plus I’m learning. I’ll be sure to catch all the tutorials.

What a good idea to just suggest a background with a light gray stamp image.

Hai Sandy, love the bright colours and the use of not so logical colours for the shading (red on the green) I have to give it a try, although I donn’t have Copics, I use my Real Brush Markers. Thanks for sharing and the helpfull shadingmap! See you tomorow.
